Conditions Were Difficult - It's a Team Effort

I thought we huffed and puffed today -in all our other games we have been really clinical going forward and performance wise it wasn’t fantastic. Conditions were, in fairness, difficult. However over a season you have to show every facet of the team’s performance and sometimes you will not play great but come away with a result.

Today our keeper had very few saves to make – we defended well – Josh Barrett in central defence was outstanding. We soaked up some pressure and did not concede – overall I am happy. We have come away with a result and over a season there will be more times when we do not play at our best as opposed to our free-flowing game and it is those where we need to pick up points.

I thought it was important to give an opportunity to some of the lads who have been training with us and coming on for 25/30 minutes. I thought they all did well – it can be difficult when you are not completely match fit to be chucked in!

Jake Day took his goal excellently – great finish from a great ball from Brad Riley. I thought Nathan was a threat with his pace and very unlucky not to get a goal at the end when the keeper made an excellent save.

For the midfield three, it was the first time they have played together- Henry Rollinson, Jason Mycoe and Jake Rose, ditto Josh and Owen in the centre at the back. There were brand new partnerships all over the pitch which is probably why we were not as free flowing as I would like us to be but on the plus side we showed great character, defended some set pieces really well and kept a clean sheet.

Sometimes when your forwards are not firing , you need your defence and your goalkeeper to stand up. It’s a Team effort.

On the injury front we hope Ioan Evans will be OK for Tuesday, having not played since early pre-season. Same goes for Michael. Jack Walters, Arron Burn and Iwan Healey will be away on holiday
