Ultimately I thought our Lads Were Brilliant

I was really impressed by Leeds. Sometimes you find that when first team players turn up for this type of match you don’t know how hard they will try and how much they will put in. I thought the Leeds United lads were a credit to the football club - They took the game seriously and showed their class on the night .

For long periods of the game we couldn’t really live with them; the attitude and application of the players and the staff was a real credit to them.

Nevertheless, I was disappointed with the first half performance. I thought we were perhaps showing them too much respect – we did not get close enough and compete with them. I told the lads that they may not get the opportunity again to play against teams of this calibre. We needed to put our mark on the game and be braver in possession – try to show them what we are all about!

In the first half we were dragged along with the occasion and it was all about Leeds United. I wanted us to take part in the game and at the end for them to know they had been in a real match.

I thought in the second half we were a lot better. We came out and competed - we were better on the ball and better in possession and we had a right go at them. That was more like it!

It doesn’t matter who we play be that Trafford or Leeds united. I do not expect us to roll over.

Having said all that, I thought our back four were outstanding. They stood up well to the waves and waves of attacks. The Leeds full backs never stopped overlapping – they seemed to have more than eleven players at times!

I was a little disappointed in the mid field area but we did as well as we could against a team which included some internationals.

I was delighted that Jake Day got his goal and could have had another one.

There is no reason why this result should knock the confidence of any of our players – we are made of sterner stuff than that and in the second half I thought we were excellent. We just pick ourselves up quickly, learn from what we could have done better and put it into practice next Tuesday against another National North side, Curzon Ashton. I think our last two games will hold us in good stead

We want and need these tests – look at all the positives we can take from the Leeds game, there were far more of those than negatives. Ultimately I thought our lads were brilliant! We were simply outdone by better quality – four of their goals were unstoppable
