FA Cup stories of success set to spur on the TAFC players

There’s no doubting that the FA Cup is the greatest domestic football competition in the world.

It’s a competition that matters greatly to clubs of all sizes – from the upper echelons of the Premier League right down to the non-league sides desperate to make a name for themselves.

Here at Tadcaster Albion it’s no different and we have several links to past successes which are sure to spur the lads on ahead of their game against Barnoldswick Town.

* TAFC’s new striker Josh Greening will be able to inspire his teammates with the mere mention of his older brother Jonathan Greening who lifted the cup with Manchester United in 1999.

Jonathan also captained West Brom in the semi-final of the FA cup in 2008 where he was unlucky to lose 1-0 to Portsmouth.

* TAFC Manager Paul Marshall and club owner James Gore both tasted their own success in the FA Cup when they got to the second round proper with non-league side Harrogate Railway.

Railway were eventually beaten 3-1 by Bristol City, but this still remains the furthest that the club has ever progressed in the competition.

* TAFC defender George Bissett only has to look to his dad for some FA Cup inspiration.

George’s dad Nick Bissett got to the fifth round with Brighton & Hove Albion in 1993 where they then went down 1-0 to Manchester United after a goal from Ryan Giggs.

* TAFC midfielder Liam Ormsby can also take inspiration from his dad Brendon Ormsby who scored a late header for Leeds United to beat QPR 2-1 in the 1987 quarter final of the FA Cup.

According to reports, the roof nearly blew off Elland Road as the ball crossed the line. Unfortunately for Brendon, Leeds fell at the next hurdle – losing 3-2 to Coventry City in the semi final.

* TAFC striker Mitch Hamilton has quite a story about his dad Mark Hamilton's experience of the FA Cup. Mark played in the first round proper for Goole Town in 1984 and unfortunately got beat 2-0 by Halifax Town. He didn't let it get him down too much though as later that day he got engaged to Mitch's mum! The story made the back page of the Daily Express! The match report itself also got half a column.

* And finally, TAFC’s tough tackling defender Denny Ingram has the most experience of the FA Cup in the whole team – having represented Hartlepool United in the cup on seven occasions.

With all this experience, let’s hope The Brewers can make it through to the preliminary round against Spennymoor Town on August 30th.

Up the Brewers!
