Taddy Enjoy a Trip to the Seaside - 9th July 2019

After the recent hot spell, it was unfortunate that much of this friendly match was played in drizzle on a fresh night at Bridlington. Curtis Woodhouse had the full squad available for this second warm up fixture.

Tadcaster started much the brighter of the two sides and adapted quickly to the slippery conditions. The front three of Donald Chimalilo, Jake Day (facing his previous club) and Casey Stewart were keeping the “Seasiders” on the back foot and it was no surprise when the Brewers open their account on 10 minutes; Alex Wiles put a decent ball across the box and slack defending presented Chimalilo with a one on one with James Hitchcock, the Tadcaster man coolly slotting home from ten yards. 0 – 1

It looked like a doubling of the score on 15 minutes when a "Brid" back pass bobbled over the keeper’s foot but referee Wright decided the ball had not crossed the line. Nevertheless, the second goal soon arrived when Casey Stewart put a pinpoint cross to Lebron Mbeka whose powerful diving header found the corner of the net. 18 minutes 0 – 2.

On the half hour mark Day got an inevitable goal against his former colleagues; A Tad free kick produced a good save from Hitchcock but he failed to hold the ball which rebounded off the striker and into the net. 0- 3. Right place , right time!

Joe Danby tested Michael Ingham as the interval beckoned but the Tad shot stopper was well placed and a Josh Barrett back pass bobbled just in front of the keeper but was cleared for a corner. The ensuing cross was met by a thunderous header from Nathan Walker which fortuitously rattled the cross bar before dropping onto the goal line and being cleared.

The Visitors had the last say of the half when Day teed up Alec Wiles who sent Tad in at the break 0 - 4

It was all change for Tadcaster as the second half got under way; only Stewart, Jack Walters and Ingham remained. Owen Marshall, Jared Smalling, Brad Riley, Jason Mycoe, Henry Rollinson, Nathan Keightley, Iwan Healey and Adam Jones took to the pitch.

Before making way for Arun Burn on 65 minutes, Michael Ingham made a double save from Walker – both shots looked goal bound.

The hosts looked a far more dangerous side in the second half but it was really a battle for the mid field and no more goals were forthcoming, the match ending 0- 4 to Tadcaster.

A great performance from Curtis’s men – two wins and no goals conceded. Our first home pre-season match this coming Saturday against Spennymoor Town is likely to be a severe test – they were only denied a place in the National League this season after losing the play off final last May at Chorley on penalties
