Our second instalment of our fan interviews brings us to loyal supporters Phil and Anthea Blood.

1. How did you first start following Tadcaster Albion?

"I kept reading reports in The Press of Josh Greening and Jimmy Beadle banging in the goals. Josh seemed to score a hat trick nearly every week, so we decided to come and see for ourselves."

2. What was your first ever game?

"It was Clipstone on a miserable Tuesday evening in March 2016. Typically for us Tadcaster lost 2-1 their first defeat at home in ages. Our second match was a few days later, that was a 0-0 draw. We were doing their promotion hopes no good at all. Things got better after that however and we had a brilliant run in. The 3-1 away victory at Pickering Town was one of the most amazing finishes to a game I have ever seen."

3. Who did you support beforehand and what made you start to follow the Brewers on a permanent basis?

"I supported York City for years and years. As a boy Ted McDougall and Tommy Ross were my heroes, then more latterly John McCarthy was a brilliant player at that level. Several years ago we began to watch our local Riccall United in the Minster Engineering League. This culminated in them winning the Premiership for the first time in over 40 years, having been runners up the year before. The champagne flowed that day. However the team disbanded after that and it just wasn’t the same anymore. I watched a couple of games at Selby but didn’t fancy it and that is where the Brewers came in. We liked the set up, people would nod or chat and Matt came over to talk to us and we were made to feel welcome from the start."

4. Having watched the vast majority of games this season, what have you made of our second year in the Evo-Stik with it being Mikey & Si’s first campaign in charge?

"We have enjoyed the style of football that has been played this year. I think Mikey and Si have had to adapt to managing a team of more senior players, however they are doing a good job and deserve our support."

5. What would you say to football fans who have only dipped their toes or have never tried watching Non-League Football?

"I just cannot understand why more people do not come along. The facilities are great, it’s good value for money, the standard of football is high and the effort and commitment shown by the staff and players is unbelievable. Home and away there is a really friendly atmosphere. Please just give it a try."

6. Looking at the current standings, how do you rate this season’s exploits?

"Overall very good. Dropping points against some of the lower teams in the division has cost us dear, however I don’t think we have been quite good enough to deserve promotion this year. We are very solid at the back, Ingy in particular has been brilliant every week but we need a target man and more potency up front to really challenge next year. I’m sure the managers will address this before next season starts."

7. Which player did you most enjoy watching or currently still do watch? Past and a present player maybe.

"A fully fit Adam Baker. I hope that he is given an opportunity next season and that he takes it. Currently Billy Whitehouse and Shep have given the team a boost when we were just starting to drift a little and have been great to watch."

8. Where would you like to see the club go say in 5-10 years’ time?

"Certainly one or two promotions are possible. The National League North would be a great achievement for a town of this size, but as long as we are competitive in the league and cups we are involved in we will be happy."
